ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT

OF MUNICIPLE SOLID WASTE LANDFILLING IN HO CHI MINH CITY

Abstract

 

Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) is the largest center of industry, tourism, commerce, and economic in VietNam. The high rate of economical development, the urbanization, the demand of exploiting and consuming natural resources… have caused a series of the environmental problems especially the solid waste issue.

Solid waste management is one of the most  important environmental fields which has attracted interest in many countries in the world as well as in VietNam.

In addition to positive aspects, the system of solid waste technological management has caused many negative effects especially from landfilling. Therefore, the topic “Environmental Impact Assessment of municiple solid waste landfilling in Ho Chi Minh City”  is carried out to identify, assess its impacts and propose suitable solutions to improve the result of solid waste processing activities.

This research focuses on three landfills in HCMC (Dong Thanh, Go Cat, Phuoc Hiep), important agents polluting the environment (leachate, landfill’s air, solid waste…), and main objects impacted by those ones (water, air, soil, ecosystem, human…)
